Martha and Waitstill Sharp were Holocaust Heroes. Th Holocaust was when Adolf Hitler tried to extinguish all Jewish people because of Germany's financial problems. Martha and Waitstill had no idea what was going on until someone came to their house in WelleslyMartha and Waitstill Sharp were asked to go on a mission to Czechsolvalkia to help stop the Holocaust. 17 other couples have been asked, but the Sharps were the ones to agree.
When they got there, they were asked to save many Jewish men, women, and children from the Nazis. Because of their actions, everyone started calling them The Two Who Dared To Save Others. They worked with Varian Fry to help save Jews and get them out of Czechsolvalkia. After the mission, Martha gave up her plane ticket to get Jews on the plane and out of the country. When Martha got back, they were called to go to Prague to help save more Jews.
After help saving Jews from Czechsolvalkia, Martha and Waitstill were both remembered in Yad Vashem. They are the second and third U.S remembered at Yad Vashem. On September 9, 2005 Yad Vashem named them Righteous Among the Nations. To this day Jews are thanking Martha and Waitstill Sharp from Wellesley, Massachusetts.
