Ellen Nielsen
The Holocaust was, in a few words, a MASSIVE slaughter of Jews throughout Europe. It lasted from 1933 to 1945. The group that made it their goal to exterminate the Jews throughout Europe were called Nazis. The leader of the Nazi group was Adolf Hitler. Hitler was made ruler of Germany at the same time Germany was facing a lot of problems. The people were getting mad and Hitler didn't know what to do, so he decided to take this out on the innocent Jews for literately no reason.
How It Started:
While selling fish, two young boys approached her and asked her if she had seen their friend who was a fisherman. They told her they were Jews trying to get to freedom in Sweden sense Sweden is free of Nazis. She immidently offered to hide the bouys in her house while she arranged a ferry to Sweden. Eventually, the boys made it safely to freedom. It was then she decided to help more Jewish people.
How She Helped:
Ellen Nielsen saved hundreds of Jews by hiding them inside her own home and ordered boats to ship them to Sweden. She would go around finding Jews to help and she hid them in her house. While she readied the boats, she cared for the Jews and made sure they were safe. By doing this, Ellen Nielsen saved hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust. At one time, she even had over 30 Jews hiding at her house all at once!
Uh, Oh!
Ellen was caught in 1944, and was put to work at a gas room where she had to bring infants to the room where they would be killed. Ellen hated this job, just as most sane people would. She one day refused to do her job and was placed on the line for the gas room. She escaped by bribing the guards with a bar of soap. ( Why would they want that?) She was placed on the line once more, and once again bribed the guards. The third time, she was actually saved. She was stripped naked and was entering the room when she was told she had been rescued by someone who had a pass thing from Sweden stating he was a free man. Unlike many people, Ellen Nielsen survived not only one, but three times on the line. People very rarely even got out of one time.
Fun Facts!!
Ellen lost her husband in 1941 and became a fishmonger to support her and her 6 children.
" Suddenly she was approached by German guards who informed her she had been saved. Count Folke Bernadotte had made an agreement with Heinrich Himmler to have all surviving Danish concentration camp prisoners shipped to Sweden for internment. " - http://remember.org/witness/wit.res.ellen.html
She also hid saboteurs underground

This is Adolf Hitler, the man behind the horrible Holocaust. Just when an army of people were about to kick down the door of his secret underground lair, Hitler shot himself with a pistol in the chin/ throat. I guess he didn't want to put up with torture.
